Gübelin Blushing Wing Papalachian pink sapphire necklace
Aug 1, 2022
Swiss jeweller Gübelin unveiled this "Blushing Wing" necklace in 2020, inspired by the fluid inclusions of Sri Lanka's "Papalachian" sapphires. The designer reinterpreted the microstructure of the gemstone into a wing pattern, with a "Papalachian" center stone and pastel colored treasure, reminiscent of the gorgeous scene of birds stretching their wings to meet the morning sun, echoing the praise of Sri Lanka's "bird paradise".
Padparadscha is one of the most popular varieties of pink sapphires, colored by the element "Cr" in a magnificent orange-pink hue. The new center stone is a rare Sri Lankan unburned "Papa Pappachachia", weighing 12.10 ct, and the pillow-shaped center stone is surrounded by yellow, pink and purple sapphires, reminiscent of gorgeous and colorful feather colors.
Crafted from rose gold, the Blushing Wing necklace naturally wraps around the neck like a feather – one end of the necklace extends into a palm-shaped, teardrop-shaped "Papalacha" center stone with warm and soft tones; At the other end are diamond-outlined wings, with colorful colored treasures embellished between the gaps, creating a rich visual layer. The entire work was set with diamonds and colored treasures weighing nearly 50ct and took about 600 hours to complete.
For more wear, Gübelin has hidden a detachable structure under the necklace, where you can remove the 12.10 ct "Papalachian" center stone and convert it to a ring. Gübelin's signature elements continue in the new work, where you can see a rose gold bezel-set ruby embellished in the center of the necklace, symbolizing the combination of aesthetics, knowledge and craftsmanship.
