American jeweler Yael Designs has just launched a new season of jewelry collection, "Tesserae", inspired by "mosaic settings", which skillfully uses different cuts and colors of gemstones to create colorful and gorgeous visual effects.
The new collection brings together a variety of colored gemstones – yellow, pink, purple sapphires, aquamarines and fire opals – in rainbow-like hues. It is worth mentioning that Yael Designs specially selected Santa Maria aquamarines from the Santa Maria de Itabira mine in Brazil, which are as clear as the blue of the sea.
In order to show the irregular shape of the mosaic setting, the designer uses a wealth of cutting styles, such as oval, long step, teardrop, princess and other cuts. Large oval center stones are lined with round diamond trims, small colored treasures are supported by delicate claws, and adjacent stones are connected by small centimeter diamonds, giving each piece a three-dimensional layering.
Crafted from 14K gold, the collection features a choice of pendants, rings and earrings, the most ingenious of which is a pair of unique earrings, embellished with pink sapphires, yellow sapphires and Santa Maria aquamarines, each with a precisely conceived placement and angle that is scattered freely like mosaic settings.
The most notable is a pendant piece – the center stone is a teardrop-cut Fire Opal, and the naturally saturated orange-red hue is colored by the element "Fe". The side of the fire opal is surrounded with yellow, pink, orange and other colored sapphires, which echo the color of the fire opal.
