On October 7, a rare cushion pink diamond, "Williamson Pink Star", weighing 11.15 ct, was held in Sotheby's Hong Kong and finally fell for HK$453.2 million (US$57.7 million), significantly higher than the estimated value of US$21 million, becoming the history of jewelry auctions The second highest-priced item; The average price per carat reached $5.17 million, setting a new public auction record for a single carat price for natural gemstones.
Sotheby's announced that at least 3 buyers had bid for the "Williamson Pink Star" pink diamond, which was eventually bid by a private American collector, and the diamond was renamed "Rosenberg Williamson Pink Star."
Graded by GIA, this pink diamond achieves Fancy Vivid Pink and IF clarity and is set in the center of a rose gold ring with two stepped cut diamonds on both sides and edged with a small pink diamond to add to the color space of the pink diamond center stone.
The 32.32ct rough was mined at the Williamson mine in Tanzania, one of the world's oldest diamond mines still mined, known for producing pastel-coloured pink diamonds. U.S. diamond cutter Diacore bought the rough pink diamond for $13.8 million in 2021, which was eventually cut into an 11.15 ct long cushion pink diamond.
The first holder of the global jewelry auction record is the "CTF Pink Star" of the 59.6ct oval-cut pink diamond that fell for $71.2 million in April 2017, and the "Williamson Pink Star" of this transaction ranked second.
