Van Cleef & Arpels Jardin de Rubis necklace
Jul 30, 2022
Van Cleef & Arpels unveiled this necklace piece in their new fine jewelry collection "Treasure of Rubies" in 2019, inspired by the red berries of the summer forest. The designer uses rubies to interpret the bright hues of the midsummer fruits to create a lush natural scene, and the necklace name "Jardin de rubis" means ruby garden in French.
The most striking piece of jewelry in the whole jewelry is a 18.12 ct pillow-shaped ruby from Tanzania, with crystals clear and transparent. Under incandescent lamps, this ruby has a pink hue typical of Tanzanian origin, and in daylight it transitions to a flaming bright red. This center stone is supported by six petite rose gold prongs, and the pendant bezel is matched with a diamond-paved double ring to visually create a three-dimensional depth effect.
To showcase the fruitfulness of midsummer, the designers set small round gemstones around the pendant like rounded berries between the thick branches. You can see red rubies, pink pink diamonds, and white diamonds staggered to form a colorful and beautiful color gradient, with precious metal settings barely visible between adjacent stones. The necklace also hangs a fruit-shaped pendant that sways lightly around the neck with the hanging ring.
Van Cleef & Arpels incorporates a particularly adept at convertible designs in this piece – a detachable structure hidden under the pendant that can be easily removed and worn into a brooch, cleverly giving the 18.12 ct ruby two forms of matching, making the bright red berries the focus of attention.
