The Ancient Berlin Laboratory was founded in 1923 and is headquartered in Lucerne, Switzerland. Its full name is G ü belin Gem Laboratory.
One of the three major appraisal institutions in Switzerland and currently one of the most famous gemstone laboratories in the world. Whether in terms of professionalism, rigor, or popularity, G ü belin can be said to be the leader of color gemstone appraisal institutions. Both Christie's and Sotheby's require a gemstone appraisal certificate from ancient Berlin for important gemstones at their auctions.

SSEF was founded in 1974 and is located in Basel, Switzerland. Its full name is SWISS GEMMOLOGICAL INSTITUTE (Schweizerische Stiftung f ü r Edelstein Forschung).
One of the three major appraisal institutions in Switzerland is a non-profit independent scientific research institution. In the early days of its establishment, it mainly served the Swiss jewelry industry. In 1978, it was recognized by the World Jewelry Federation - CIBJO and was also a member of the International Association of Colored Gemstones - ICA and the Laboratory Handbook Coordination Committee (LMHC).
SSEF laboratory can produce test reports for diamonds, colored gemstones, and pearls, which often appear at auctions by Sotheby's and Christie's, and are highly recognized by auction houses in various countries.

GRS was founded in 1996 and is located in Switzerland. Its full name is Gem Research Swiss Lab.
One of the three major appraisal institutions in Switzerland is Dr A. Peretti founded a private gemstone laboratory that provides commercial appraisal services to the world's top jewelry auction companies year-round. It is the most renowned and market share certificate in the color gemstone industry.
GRS has its own opinions on color grading, with Pigeon's blood and royal blue being the first terms proposed by GRS and marked for use on certificates.






4、C.DUNAIGRE


CD, founded in 2008, is located in Switzerland.
It is a gemstone laboratory founded by Christian Dunaigre, a former gemologist at the Ancient Berlin Gem Laboratory. It enjoys a high reputation in the industry and is relatively niche. Some auction houses also use this certificate.

GGTL is an independent gemological testing laboratory, formed by the merger of two laboratories established in 1996- GemTechLab in Switzerland and Gemlab in Liechtenstein. It provides testing reports on gemstones, diamonds, and pearls, as well as diamond grading reports. The International Gemological Institute was established in 1975 and is located in Antwerp, Belgium. Its full name is the International Gemological Institute.
It is the oldest gemstone college, one of the world's three authoritative appraisal institutions, and also the world's largest independent appraisal laboratory for jewelry. It has laboratories in large trading centers in various countries.

The Belgian Diamond High Council was established in 1973 and is located in Antwerp, Belgium. Its full name is Hoge Raad voor Diamond.
HRD, GIA, and IGI are the three authoritative diamond appraisal institutions worldwide, and their certificates are highly recognized in Europe. The grading standards for HRD are different from GIA and are negotiated and developed by the International Diamond Council (IDC).

The European Gemological Laboratories, founded in 1974 and located in Antwerp, is the full name of the European Gemological Laboratories.
E. G.L. is the first appraisal center in Antwerp. In the early stage, it was similar to international certificates such as GIA, IGI, HRD, and had high authority. However, due to poor management, excessive ratings emerged, causing chaos in the diamond industry. In 2016, it triggered a joint boycott across the industry.
Later, EGL cancelled the trademark usage rights of some laboratories and carried out large-scale rectification, resulting in the differentiation of EGL America, EGL South Africa, and EGL Asia.
In June 2008, EGL came to China and established an independent testing laboratory in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China, namely the European Gem Institute (Asian Laboratory)

The Gemological Association&Gem Testing Laboratory of Great Britain was established in 1908.
The world's oldest gemstone association became an independent institution in 1931. After forming a partnership with the Gem Testing Laboratory of Great Britain in 1990, the new abbreviation Gem-A was introduced in 2000.
FGA's appraisal agency is very famous, but certificates are rare in the market and are instead famous for exams. Students who pass the FGA exam are awarded a Gemological Certificate, which allows them to apply for membership in the Gemological Association (FGA) in the UK.
