The French Gem Laboratory was established in 1929, with the full name Laboratoire Fran ç ais de Gemmologie.
It is the oldest gemstone laboratory in the world, managed by the Paris Chamber of Commerce from 1933 to 2011 and affiliated with the French Jewelry Union (BJOP). We have a cooperative relationship with Nantes University.

It is one of the world's most authoritative top appraisal institutions specializing in diamond cutting. Its founder was Robert M. Shipley, who completed a gemology course at the National Goldsmiths Association in Europe and then returned to Los Angeles to establish his own junior gemology course on September 16, 1930.
