Brand profile
Bulgari is a world-renowned luxury brand founded in 1884 in Rome, Italy by the Greek-born Sotirio Bulgari. In addition to the high-end gemstone collection at the beginning of its establishment, its product line also added watches, leather bags, perfumes, etc., and began to operate high-end hotels in 2004. Bulgari's official trademark is the ancient Roman spelling "BVLGARI".
Brand history
Born into a family of Greek silversmiths, Sotirio Bulgari moved to Italy and opened his first shop on Rue Sistina in Rome in 1884 selling silver carvings. In 1905, Sotirio Bulgari, with the assistance of his sons Costantino and Giorgio, founded the Bulgari main store in Via Condotti, which remains Bulgari's flagship store to this day.
The second generation, who began to take charge of the family business, decided to break away from the rigorous norms of the French goldsmith school at the end of the Second World War, draw inspiration from the classical art field of Greece and Rome, and integrate the Italian Renaissance aesthetics and the 19th century Roman goldsmith school style to make a unique taste belonging to Bulgari, which was a major turning point in the history of Bulgari style. By the 1950s and 1960s, Bulgari's innovative style captured the hearts of many wealthy celebrities and movie superstars.
In the 1970s, as brand awareness soared around the world, Bulgari entered the first phase of its international footprint, opening boutiques in New York, Geneva, Monte Carlo, Paris and elsewhere. Based on this page of goldwork and jewelry, in 1977 Bulgari launched the brand's classic Bvlgari. In 1982, Bulgari Time Neuchâtel was founded to design and manufacture Bulgari watches. For the field of watches, Bulgari is not willing to develop only from the perspective of jewelry, and wants to go further towards the road of professional watchmaking.
Bulgari has been actively promoting vertical integration programs since 2000, starting with the acquisition of watchmakers Gerald Genta and Daniel Roth, which are the most central parts of the merger plan. In 2002, Bulgari acquired a 50% stake in crova, a top jewelry brand, followed by a full stake in it in 2004. In 2005, the Bulgari Group acquired three more companies in a row, including two Swiss watchmakers: Cadrans Design, which specializes in making dials for top-of-the-line watches, and Prestige d'Or, which specializes in metal straps. In the same year, Bulgari acquired a full stake in the Italian leather goods company Pacini and renamed it Bulgari Accessori S.r.l. By 2007, Bulgari's efforts to promote vertical integration in the field of watches had yielded fruitful results, and it had the ability to independently design, manufacture and assemble movements, setting a record for the first time in history.
In 2009, the Bulgari Group launched the Sotirio Bulgari Tourbillon Quantième Perpétuel watch, the first watch independently manufactured by Bulgari, whose movement and parts were all produced and assembled by Bulgari itself. The BVL 465 calibre was independently developed by Bulgari and features a transparent automatic tourbillon and perpetual calendar, with an innovative dual coaxial reversing pointer display.
In March 2011, the LVMH Group announced the acquisition of Bulgari for EUR 4.3 billion. LVMH will issue 16.5 million shares in exchange for 152.5 million shares held by the Bulgari family, which will also be the second largest family shareholder of the LVMH Group.
