Tiffany Blue Book butterfly brooch
Sep 29, 2022
The brooch is from Tiffany's 2018 Blue Book fine jewelry collection, "The Four Seasons of Tiffany", with the theme of the light and flying "butterfly", using the image of summer insects to interpret the summer time when everything grows. The butterflies on the brooch seem to converge from different directions, clustering around a Tanzanite stone, creating a vivid summer scene.
The center stone of the ring is a Tanzanite in excess of 27ct, cut in an emerald shape with a slender silhouette that accentuates the clarity and transparency of the stone. Because Tanzanite has a naturally strong "trichromatic nature", the different angles of the gemstone appear gray-blue, dark blue, and blue-violet with a distinct sense of layering.
Around the center stone are 5 butterflies of different postures, their wings naturally stretched out or gently folded, creating a visual balance at the diagonal diagonal of the gemstone. The designer uses marble-shaped sapphires to set the butterfly's body, and the wings are laid out by round sapphires with platinum to outline the distinct wing patterns, and the sapphires show subtle tonal differences that echo the "tricolority" of the Tanzanite center stone.
Flip it over to the back of the brooch to see a mesh-like intricate mounting structure that ensures maximum light through the sapphire for a life-filled gem color.
